Meet, Greet, and Tweet

Buchanan PR agency ArdmoreJob hunters have long known that connections can be key. It’s often said it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. Increasingly, however, people are making those professional connections through social media – with people they’ve never met in person.

Take the Twitter group HAPPO, of which Buchanan PR is proud to be the Philadelphia representative. Stands for Help a PR Pro Out. Started by a small group of PR bloggers only a year ago, it’s already become a vital resource for job-hunting PR people.

Up until now, all the chatter has been through Twitter via username @HelpAPrProOut with live-tweet conversations indexed through the hashtag (#) “HAPPO.” With the success of a robust Twitter account and buzz swirling around the blogosphere, a HAPPO community popped up on LinkedIn. But now, HAPPO is going public, with its first nationwide live and in-person HAPPO Hour chat. In selected markets around the country, the group is organizing a face-to-face networking event on Thursday, February 24 from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Central Time. In Philly, we’ll be hosting the event a little earlier (from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Eastern Time), here at our offices in Ardmore.

The event will be one-part Twitter chat and one-part in-person networking event. We’ll share information about job openings, review resumes, provide career advice – whatever attendees want it to be. For those who can’t make it, you can still participate via Twitter; follow the conversation at #HAPPO.
